Advanced, a world-leading manufacturer of specialist fire protection equipment, welcomed the Mayor of Barnsley to its Research and Development office in Barugh Green on Friday to celebrate the company’s 25th anniversary.
The visit marks a significant milestone for Advanced, which has grown from a small team working in the Barnsley Business and Innovation Centre to a global company trusted to protect lives and property in more than 80 countries. With its headquarters in Newcastle upon Tyne, Advanced’s Barnsley office serves as a hub for innovation, driving the company’s world-class R&D efforts alongside its growing team in India.
Peter Bell, Head of Research & Development at Advanced, expressed pride in the company’s strong roots in Barnsley, saying, “We’re delighted to welcome the Mayor to our Barnsley Research & Development office as we celebrate our 25th year of innovation and growth. Having started in offices within the Barnsley Businesses & Innovation Centre, it’s incredible to reflect on how far we have come and how rooted we remain in this community. The R&D team has grown from a handful of engineers to a 40 strong team across Barnsley and Bangalore. The Mayor’s visit highlights the importance of fostering local business and innovation, and we’re proud of the impact Advanced has had not only here in Barnsley but globally through our R&D efforts and in the thousands of products helping to protect Lives and Property.”
The Mayor’s visit also coincides with the presence of several members of Advanced’s international team, including colleagues from India, who are in the UK for the company’s 25th-anniversary staff celebration. The global nature of Advanced’s operations has been pivotal to its success, with the company’s fire safety solutions now found in a diverse range of settings, from high-rise buildings and industrial complexes to transportation hubs and historic landmarks.
Councillor Robin Franklin, Barnsley Cabinet Spokesperson for Regeneration and Culture, also shared his thoughts: “This is another fantastic success story for a business with Barnsley-based operations. They’ve expanded the Research and Development department to the region of 40 staff who are based in both Barnsley and Bangalore, and we’re proud to play our part in their continued growth. Advanced Electronics add to the already diverse portfolio of businesses based in the borough and demonstrate that Barnsley is a place where any business can thrive.”
As part of Halma plc, a FTSE 100 global group of life-saving technology companies, Advanced continues to drive innovation in fire safety, supporting Halma’s mission of growing a safer, cleaner, healthier future for everyone, every day.
